Robots Invade Brooklyn - Bot Jiz at Goodbye Blue Monday

The future is now, and it's anthem is a song by Bot Jiz. On Friday, July 10th, at Brooklyn's own Goodbye Blue Monday, the people of the Earth will bear witness to the coming of a robotronic revolution lead by gangsters from the year 3000. The story of Bot Jiz is a little foggy, and no one is really sure how they got to this planet, but since they have been here they have been reeking havoc on the ears of unsuspecting earthlings with their cyberdub sounds. The outfit consists of Alex "Doc Brown" MacKinnon on the drumset, Archie Carey on bassoon and electronics and Zach Koeber on tenor sax and electronics. BE THERE TO WITNESS THE REVOLUTION

Cutler Trio's Last Stand (8/22)

With the impending return of Israeli pianist Assaf Glizner, it was only a matter of time before the father/son Cutler Trio would come to an end. Unfortunately, that time has come. On Friday, August 22nd, the Cutler Trio will make it's last stand at the 76 House only to be replaced by the world renowned jazz trio, The Tritones. The band will feature Stew Cutler on guitar, his son David (Gigmazter) on bass and chop-master drummer Alex Mackinnon. Usually the trio plays strictly striaght-ahead jazz but for this performance anything can happen.  Expect nothing less than face melting solos from each of the three members of this burning jazz trio.

The 76 House is located on 110 Main St. in Tappan, New York. The band will be playing from 7-11. Don't miss this Sick Gig.

Jon Irabagon's Outright! CD Release Party @ Fat Cat, Friday June 27th

For the first of many Sick Gigz postings to come, I have decided to write about one of the inspirations for this brilliant webpage, Jon Irabagon.

Jon's band, "Outright!" which features Trumpeter Russ Johnson, Pianist/Keyboardist Kris Davis, Drummer Jeff Davis and Bassist Eivind Opsvik, has recently been reviewed on allaboutjazz.com and you can check it out here.

Jon is also the founder of the wonderful 80's pop tribute band "Starship's Journey." One of the greatest tribute bands to grace New York City.

For more info on Jon, check out his myspace which is linked above.
